Montana Tech has been competing in the SAE Baja Collegiate Design Competition for the past 6 years. This is the second year that the team will officially be recognized as a club by Montana Tech.
The team will be competing against other teams worldwide, on May 16-19 in Gorman, California. There are four main events that take place: acceleration, hill climb, maneuverability, and suspension. In order to compete, the team will design, build and fabricate a new Baja buggy, that meets & exceeds the regulations required by SAE. In past years, Montana Tech placed 78th out of 94 in 2016, 35th out of 107 in 2017 and 24th out of 78 in 2018 while taking home 2nd place in the sled pull competition.
The team’s main goal is to keep the tradition of improving each year alive, by placing in the top 25 teams in the overall standings. To achieve this goal, the team plans on refining upon old designs, by reducing weight and improving the overall performance. Fundraising is critical to making our design a reality. The entry fee, parts, materials and transportation to California and back is estimated to cost approximately $22,000. All donations are tax deductible through the Montana Tech Foundation.
