The Montana Tech SAE Baja team is an officially recognized club at Montana Tech that has been competing in the SAE Baja Collegiate Design Competition for the past 9 years. The club is trying to fund the trip to the competition in Cookeville, Tennessee and is looking to the community for financial support.
The SAE Competition requires that each team engineers a buggy, fabricates it, then uses the buggy in a competition against national and international teams. There are four main events that test acceleration, hill climbing ability, maneuverability, and the buggy’s suspension. Additionally, the buggy must meet the strict standards and regulations governed by SAE. Last year, the team placed in the top 10 teams.
The team’s main goal is to keep improving each year and to continue placing in the top 10 teams at the competition. To achieve this goal, the team plans on refining old designs, reducing weight, and improving the overall design. Fundraising is critical to achieve this goal. The costs of entry, room and board, and transportation are estimated at approximately $15,000. All donations made to Montana Tech Baja are tax deductible through the Montana Tech Foundation.
