The Lieutenant R. Max Bullock Endowed Memorial Scholarship is established in memory or Lt. Max Bullock [call sign Kuato], a naval aviator who lost his life flying his FA-18 Super Hornet in support of peacekeeping. Max was born in Butte, Montana to Montana Tech graduates Bill and Robin (Thornell) Bullock. Max was generous and spent his early life helping his family build the Jeremy Bullock Soccer Fields in Butte, as a tribute to his older brother who was lost in a school shooting. Max was passionate and relentlessly positive. He would dream of ideas that seemed unimaginable to most people and would shock them when he presented a step-by-step solution to achieving them. He joined the Navy- as a pilot- to fly the world’s most advanced aircraft - to become an astronaut- to get to space- to mine asteroids.
His belief in himself was only matched by his belief in the goodness and ability of others. In every action and conversation, he conveyed that there are no limits on potential and possibility. This scholarship is intended to not only continue his desire to help others, but for our team of mentors to aid in helping the scholarship awardees the ability to succeed in making a positive impact in our world. We request US active military, veterans and Gold Star family members to apply for this award. Max's family asks for a 200-word paragraph on what you would like to do with your education to improve the campus, Butte and/or the world around you. This award can be received either in the 2nd year at Highlands, or the sophomore and/or junior year at Montana Tech. This scholarship may be awarded twice to the same recipient.
