Over the past five seasons, no Frontier Conference program has won more games or conference championships than the Montana Tech Men’s Basketball team. YOUR program has accomplished this by investing resources into recruiting, developing, and graduating the best student-athletes in Montana and beyond.
As a result, we have had transformative experiences and made lifelong memories for our players, peer students, alumni, and Oredigger fans. But make no mistake, we are far from our ceiling!
Our goal remains to elevate this incredible program to new heights. YOUR Orediggers have won three straight conference tournament crowns. This is only the second time in school history, the first when Kelvin Sampson led the Orediggers to the other three-peat from 1983 to 1985.
This past season marked the first time in history a Frontier Conference team has won three regular season and three tournament titles. The Orediggers completed the regular season on a 12-game win streak finishing 26-4 overall and a 14-1 conference record.
YOUR Orediggers have been in the Top 25 for the last 11 polls, the seventh-longest active streak in the NAIA, making the Orediggers the only remaining Frontier Conference team in the poll.
YOUR Orediggers competed in the NAIA National Tournament for the third year in a row, and for the second year in a row, Montana Tech hosted 1st and 2nd round games on Kelvin Sampson Court.
Recruitment of high-achieving student-athletes is key to our success. We need your help to continue to be the top choice for the best basketball players in Montana and in the region. Here are a few examples of the incredible players and coaches we have recruited, developed, and retained at Montana Tech:
• Michael Ure (Idaho Falls, ID) First Team All-Conference ‘23-’24 – Entering his senior season
• Asa Williams (Solon, OH) First Team All-Conference ‘23-’24 – Currently playing professionally in Germany
• Caleb Bellach (Manhattan, MT) First Team All-Conference ‘23-’24 – Currently playing professionally in Germany
• Cam LaRance (Missoula, MT) co-Sixth Man of the Year ’23-’24 – Entering his senior season
• Hayden Diekhans (Geraldine, MT) Defensive Player of the Year ’23-’24 – Entering his junior season
• Sam Gray (Billings, MT) Champions of Character Award ’23-’24 – Currently pursuing his PT certification
• Adam Hiatt Head Coach of the Year ’23-’24 – Entering his 9th year as head coach
With YOUR help, we will continue to recruit and support high-character student-athletes who compete at a championship level.
Also of note, our ability to attract quality non-conference opponents to Butte for early season tournaments has been instrumental in the development of our men’s basketball program. The selection process for the National Tournament is largely contingent on analytics, such as Ratings Power Index and Strength of Schedule. We need to play a rigorous non-conference schedule to prepare our team for the Frontier Conference season, improve our post-season seeding, and continue to host the opening two rounds.
With YOUR help we can continue to have ranked teams, traditional powers, and marquee early-season matchups on Kelvin Sampson Court during November and December.
