The Montana Tech SAE Baja team is an officially recognized student engineering club with a proud history of competing in the SAE Baja Collegiate Design Competition for over a decade. Each year, the team designs, engineers, and builds a single-seat off-road vehicle from the ground up—then puts it to the test against national and international teams.

SAE Baja challenges students to apply real-world engineering skills by designing and fabricating a buggy that meets rigorous standards and safety requirements set by SAE. Teams compete in multiple performance events that evaluate acceleration, traction, maneuverability, endurance, and overall design. Montana Tech’s team consistently performs at a high level, earning top-10 placements in past competitions.

This year, the team is working to refine previous designs, reduce weight, and improve efficiency and performance with the goal of continuing their strong competitive momentum. Fundraising is essential to make this possible. The cost of registration, materials, travel, lodging, and transporting the buggy is approximately $15,000.
