In March 2026, a new tradition began at Montana Tech.

The Montana Tech Orediggers Women's Hockey Team was officially formed, creating an exciting new opportunity for student-athletes to compete, grow, and represent Montana Tech on the ice. As we build our program from the ground up, we invite alumni, friends, families, hockey supporters, and the broader community to help us establish a strong foundation for years to come.

Building a Program from the Ground Up

The Montana Tech Orediggers Women's Hockey Team will compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I and join the Western Women's Collegiate Hockey League (WWCHL), one of the premier women's collegiate club hockey conferences in the western United States.

As a new program, our focus is on building a competitive roster, developing team culture, and creating a sustainable foundation for future success. During our inaugural year, we will recruit student-athletes, establish team operations, and compete in exhibition play as we prepare for full league competition beginning in the 2027-28 season.

The WWCHL includes teams from:

• Arizona State University
• Colorado State University
• Grand Canyon University
• Montana State University
• University of Colorado
• University of Denver
• University of Wyoming
• Additional independent programs throughout the region

Unlike NCAA or NAIA programs, ACHA teams operate as student clubs and do not receive athletic scholarships. To keep participation affordable and accessible, the Montana Tech Women's Hockey program relies heavily on sponsorships, donations, and community support.

More Than Hockey

Montana Tech Women's Hockey is about more than competition.

Our student-athletes are pursuing degrees in engineering, health sciences, business, technology, and other academic disciplines while developing leadership skills, teamwork, discipline, and community engagement.

Players are expected to participate in volunteer service opportunities both on and off campus while helping grow the program through fundraising and outreach efforts. Together, they represent the values of Montana Tech and the spirit of the Oredigger community.
