Dr. Thomas Finch. One of the best mining professors and department heads to call the Mining City and Montana Tech home. Tom’s spirit and legacy lives on as he continues to impact mining engineering students through the Dr. Tom Finch Endowed Memorial Scholarship. With a large number of alumni, friends, and family contributing, Tom’s scholarship has grown to $78,000 providing nearly $3,000 per year to a junior or senior in mining engineering. The latest recipient, Logan Ward, is the quintessential candidate this scholarship was meant to support. Logan is a senior in mining engineering, enrolled in the National Guard, and a full-time husband and father of two. In his thank-you letter to Kathy Finch, Logan writes, “Your husband’s work for the mining industry will provide opportunities for young men such as myself for years to come. The confidence and support that you have for Montana Tech and for students such as myself is a testament to the character of your husband and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity that you have presented me with.  I will not take it lightly nor will I forget your generosity. Thank you.”
