Honoring Dr. Tom Finch's Legacy and Investing in the Next Generation of Mining Engineers

The Dr. Tom Finch Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established at Montana Tech in 2013, to serve as a permanent memorial to the teacher, colleague, friend and man he was. Dr. Tom Finch was so much more than a Mining professor. He was a mentor and friend outside of the classroom and genuinely cared about making sure his students graduated and were primed for success when they entered industry.

It’s because of Montana Tech alumni, family, and friends that as of November 2020 the Dr. Tom Finch Endowed Memorial Scholarship now stands at over $220,000 dollars, providing four $2,000 scholarship to a Mining student each year.

Now our aim is to take it even further and just like Tom did, increase the impact for Mining students at Montana Tech.Our new goal is to grow the Dr. Tom Finch Endowed Memorial Scholarship to $300,000. This would allow us to award multiple $2,000 scholarships every year to Montana Tech Mining students. Tom’s goal was to help as many students as he could and by growing the endowment we can assure that continues.
